The price of soybean oil will be adjusted. However, there is no opportunity to return to the previous price of soybean oil. The Tariff Commission is working on it. The government has announced that it will determine the price at a rational rate, as stated by the Minister of Commerce, Ahshanul Islam Titu. Today, on Tuesday (16 April), he informed this in the reporters’ unit in Dhaka.
Ahshanul Islam said that Iran and Israel have suddenly attacked. We did not know about it. Petroleum products including crude oil come from the Middle East. I do not know if Israel will launch a counterattack on Iran or not. Then keeping everything in mind so that the prices of goods do not increase, we are trying to import alternative goods.
He said that there is a plan to bring TCB products into shops. In addition, TCB cardholders’ list will be updated.
The concerned authorities of the government are working to keep the prices of 18 essential daily necessities stable, as stated by the Minister of Commerce. He said that instead of determining prices for traders, the government will determine them considering ordinary people’s perspectives.
Ahshanul Islam said that within two months, they are planning to make TCB shops permanent shops. A list will also be updated among them.
Before this increase in oil prices, mill owners sent a letter to the Secretary of Commerce on Monday proposing prices for a liter bottle-packaged soybean oil at BDT 173 and five liters at BDT 845 and an open liter palm oil at BDT 132 proposed price.
Regarding this matter, the Minister of Commerce said that I don’t know anything about this letter either. I haven’t received it yet; if it is sent to my office then I’ll have to go and check.
