On the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and the Prevention of this Crime, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus reiterated Bangladesh’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that atrocities like genocide never occur again.
In his message, Dr. Yunus stated that Bangladesh stands in solidarity with the global community in remembering the countless victims of genocide worldwide. He also highlighted the tragic genocide endured by Bangladesh during the 1971 Liberation War, one of the most heinous atrocities in modern history.
Dr. Yunus condemned the persecution of Rohingyas in Myanmar and the oppression of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, labeling such acts as grave affronts to humanity’s core principles. He emphasized the devastating impact of violence on women and children, urging vigilance against such international crimes.
The Chief Advisor underscored the importance of justice and accountability for victims and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment as a party to the Genocide Convention and the Rome Statute to uphold and universalize these legal frameworks.
He called on the international community to address early warning signs, eliminate the root causes of genocidal actions, and foster a culture of peace and non-violence.
Dr. Yunus expressed hope that this day would serve as a solemn reminder of the collective responsibility to prevent such atrocities, ensure justice, and build a future grounded in peace, dignity, and humanity.
