Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin stated that his aim is to restore the voting rights of people who have been deprived for so long.
He made this remark on Sunday (January 5) while addressing an event at the Electoral Training Institute in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The CEC said, “We are here to voice the grievances of 18 crore deprived people. We have taken responsibility, and InshaAllah, we aim to address and eliminate their deprivation. Those who have been deprived of their voting rights for so long, we want to restore that. We want to alleviate their suffering caused by this deprivation.”
He further added, “Our primary goal and commitment to the nation is to deliver a free, fair, and acceptable election.”
With the addition of around 1.8 million new voters to the draft voter list, the total number of voters now exceeds 123.6 million. The house-to-house voter list updating process is set to begin on January 20.
To achieve this, a “Training of Trainers” program for data collectors and supervisors was inaugurated. Election commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Begum Tahmida Ahmed, Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah, and EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed participated in the inaugural event.
